Working Shareholders

What is the Working Shareholder Program?

BFC Shareholders can get a 5% discount on all purchases by working 2 hours per month. Shareholders are NOT required to work, it’s completely optional. The roots of the Working Shareholder program go back to our origins, when we formed as a buying club in 1975. In those days everyone who bought food through the Co-op had to work – our first proper employee wasn’t even hired until a few years after the Co-op was formed! Today, employees do the lion’s share of the labor, but Shareholders still play an important role in supporting the work we do here at the BFC.

Become a Shareholder

How do I become a Shareholder?

Get in touch with the Shareholder Services department, either in person at the Shareholder Services desk between 10am-6pm every day, by phone by calling 802-246-2821 (make sure to leave a voicemail!), or via email at shareholders@brattleborofoodcoop.coop. As of July 2020, we’re working on getting online Shareholder enrollment up and running to make this convenient option available during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re not quite there yet, but you don’t have to be face to face to become an owner. Just get in touch!

Make Masks for Shareholder Hours

We’re offering work credit to Shareholders in exchange for making masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Here are two patterns two of our employees have been using – if you have a different pattern you’d like to use, go right ahead!
