On Thursday, November 3th from 1:30-4:30 and Saturday, November 5th from 11:30-2:30, Sarah Pierce from Okano’s Kitchen will be hosting a tasting of Samurai Bread. Sarah created this popular product in honor of her grandmother, Yoko, who developed the recipe, and her mother, Sumiko, who designed the bread pans. Samurai Bread Kits will be available for purchase so that you can make your own delicious Samurai Bread, or give this tasty treat as a fun holiday gift.

Try Before You Buy: Against the Grain Pizza
On Friday, November 4th from 11:30-2:30 Karena from Against the Grain will be hosting a tasting of Three Cheese and Pesto Pizzas. The Brattleboro-based company Against the Grain features gluten-free products that are made of 100% natural ingredients. Nancy Cain, the co-founder of Against the Grain and author of a cookbook by the same name, developed the recipes for these products when her teenage son was diagnosed with celiac disease.

Winter is coming. Does the idea of buying jet-lagged lettuce from California make you weary? Peter Burke, the author of Year-Round Indoor Salad Gardening, devised an elegant and affordable way to grow his own fresh greens year-round. He will be here at the Brattleboro Food Cooperative on Saturday, November 5th from 2:30-4:00 to show you how. If you want to grow salad greens indoors, whatever the weather, without special equipment, Peter’s class is the place for you! This in-person event is free but requires registration. Register early! The road to family can be a delicate one for all involved. Brattleboro Food Co-op will be hosting an Adoption Month Event on November 10th, 2022 at 6 pm. Rebecca and Sallyann Majoya, authors of Uncertain Fruit: A Memoir of Infertility, Loss, and Love will share how they have processed their experiences of infertility and a disrupted adoption. Macie Klumper of Lund Family Center will offer information about waiting child adoption, and the practicalities of adopting children out of foster care. Michelle Colburn of Vermont Department for Children and Families will be present to speak about serving as foster parents. On Friday, November 11th from 11:30-2:30, Leda from Dosa Kitchen will be hosting a tasting of fresh dosas. The Brattleboro-based company Dosa Kitchen features vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free batter that you can easily use to make pancakes or waffles at home. With Leda Scheintaub, the love of his life, Nash opened the food truck Dosa Kitchen, developed the batter we sell here at the coop, and wrote the book Dosa Kitchen: Recipes for India’s Favorite Street Food. On Saturday, November 12th from 11:30-2:30, Sam from Farmers and Cook will be hosting a tasting of fresh deli meat. The Massachusetts-based company Farmers and Cook says, “Whether it’s a simple roast or a fancy flavor, it takes real cooking and sometimes lots of real ingredients to get our meats this delicious. When we say an item is natural, that means we don’t use artificial ingredients, painted-on caramel colors, or the other usual tricks of the trade. But we sure do use herbs and spices and things like extra virgin olive oil, cider vinegar, and sometimes even fruit juice or minced vegetables.” Come to meet Sam and try four great deli meats, all of which feature super clean ingredients!

This delicious dish is super adaptable; it is wonderful cooked in a turkey, it also makes for a really lovely dish to share with your vegan guests if baked on its own, and golly the leftovers are tasty. On Saturday, November 19th from 11:30-2:30, Allie from FinAllie Ferments will be hosting a tasting of her kimchi and sauerkraut. An artist by training (glass blowing), Allie’s second act as a farmer and fermenter allows her to nurture her desire to heal, feed, and nurture her community. Allie honors traditional fermentation processes but maintains her own unique flavors. Each recipe begins as an experiment. Though inspired by the rich history of ferments from around the world, she honors the ingredients available in our bioregion. Everything is fermented in oak barrels and ceramic crocks, never in plastic, ensuring complex flavors. Stop by to meet Allie and taste her delicious ferments!

Samples of buttermilk mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, vegan nut loaf, vegan mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, green beans almondine, and vegan wild rice stuffing will be made available for this special tasting.
